Chamonix offers the perfect weekend escape in any season—whether you’re into hiking, breathtaking viewpoints, snow sports, or simply relaxing with panoramic views of Mont Blanc. Easily accessible by train or bus from Geneva or Lyon, this alpine town blends adventure, charm, and sustainability into one unforgettable trip.

How to Get to Chamonix
From Geneva
- By train: Depart from Gare Cornavin in Geneva and take a TER train toward Saint-Gervais-les-Bains – Le Fayet (approx. 1h45). After a short 10-minute transfer, board a local train to Chamonix (30 minutes). Tickets can be booked via the French rail website SNCF Connect.
- By bus: From Geneva Airport or city center, you can take a FlixBus—the most economical and fastest option, with a journey of around 1h20.
From Lyon
- By train: Expect a journey of around 4h30. Take a train from Lyon Part-Dieu to Bellegarde-sur-Valserine (1h30), then transfer to a train toward Saint-Gervais-les-Bains – Le Fayet (2h15), and finally take the local train to Chamonix (30 minutes).
- By bus: From Lyon Perrache, direct buses (FlixBus or BlaBlaBus) take approximately 3 to 4 hours.
As a blog promoting sustainable travel, we also recommend carpooling via BlaBlaCar as an eco-friendly alternative that can be flexible and budget-friendly.

Here is a suggested itinerary for a stroll through Chambéry to enjoy its beautiful architecture and riverside charm. The walk takes about 1h30 if you take your time, stop for photos, and wander at a relaxed pace.
